THE
NEXT DUOPOLY?
IBM today announced plans with Intel Corp., Santa
Cruz Operation and Sequent Computer Systems to create a
single Unix product line for Intel's IA-32 and IA-64
architecture and IBM's PowerPC. IBM also says it will
port its middleware to the new OS and invest in technical
and marketing support for independent software vendors.
IBM and Intel promise a "multimillion dollar ISV
fund" to help developers deliver middleware tools
and applications. More
info here.
"THAT'S
ABSURD"
Microsoft today claimed
that new evidence unearthed in its antitrust battle with
the government proves that a disputed 1995 meeting at the
heart of the case was in fact a "set-up"
orchestrated by Netscape Communications to persuade the
Justice Department to sue the software giant. Full story of today's testimony.
